a gal and her period's best friend
k - i'm going out on a limb with this most recent blog post. i know i have some faithful readers of my blog who belong to the male gender, and i apologize if this is a post filled with too much info. i won't be offended if you don't read it (but if you do, share it with your wives).
however, i know i have many more female readers, so this post is for them. this is a much more open post than my normal ones, so if any of you are uncomfortable with period talk, now is the time to stop reading.
are you gone? i'm trusting you, my reader - if this is going to weird you out, i'm trusting you not to read it!
if you think you can handle it and are still here, check this out!
last year, roughly in april or march, my sister kel turned me on to this website, which has become a close companion of mine through the past year: http://monthlyinfo.com
it started out as a website where you could simply log the starting date of your periods, and it a. kept track of them for you (a useful tool since the first question asked at any obgyn appointment is when was the first day of your two most recent periods?), and b. had the capabilities to email you reminders a few days before your next period was about to start (which was a good reminder to check supplies as to not be caught unsupplied and needing an emergency trip to your local 24 hour grocery store).
it has evolved. and i am fascinated.
here's what it looks like when you first log in (and after you've been keeping track of a couple months worth of periods):
pretty sweet, eh? you just click the day on the calendar, and then it brings up a prompt where you can tell it "This is the day my period started", or you can just enter in some additional period related information about that day. if it's the day your period started, it keeps track of them on the left side of the website, and it tells you how long your cycle was for the past month. based on the info, as you can see at the top, it tells you when it thinks your next period will start.i love this!
i was especially intrigued since, being on a birth control other than the pill and as you can see above, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to my periods. it was interesting to record them all and see if my body was coming up with some kind of system or routine. because of this website, i was able to better understand the sad state of my body and its "monthly" cycles.
so now the evolving part:
just below the calendar, it shows you more specific statistical information about your cycles, including, based on the accuracy of the above calendar dates, the date of your last and next ovulations! this would be so helpful for women who are trying to get preggers (or women who aren't on the pill who are trying to avoid the pregnant state)! under phase of current cycle, you can click the link (which currently says luteal) and it brings up the wikipedia website giving an explanation of that phase.how cool is this! i'm really excited to be using this website now that i have my birth control implant taken out but also since i'm not on the pill. once my body gets on a little more of a normal cycle (assuming i don't get preggers first - ha!), this website will be so valuable!
also, once my body gets on a normal schedule, i can go to the options field and tell it to ignore data before april 13th (the day of my implant removal). if you are into the all natural method of family planning, it also has an option to include your basal temp so you can have an easy way to record it on a personal website that you don't have to share with anyone (but something you can view anywhere you have an internet connection).
i'm really excited about this site, and i've been verbally sharing it with alot of people lately, so i thought i would try to help them out by writing it out with pictures, in case they forgot.
anyone who checks this out, let me know what you think!
and.....
ok. super personal sharing time is now over.
